LibreOffice & Apache Open Office

These fully featured office suites have a high level of compatibility with their well known commercial counterparts and are constantly improving.


Inkscape is a vector drawing program useful for illustrations ranging from very simple to complex commercial art.


Gimp is a full featured and powerful photo editor.


Dia can create complex flowcharts and diagrams.


Keepass is a program for keeping track of all kinds of passwords.  Passwords are stored in an encrypted file for security.


VLC is a program for playing a huge variety of media files and network streams.


Freemind is mind-mapping software – useful for organizing related concepts of any kind.
